The Goals of Vincent Massey Collegiate
The primary goal of the Collegiate will be to develop well-rounded students who are committed to academic achievement and who foster a sense of strong community responsibilities. These goals will be fulfilled through the Collegiate’s educational project based on understanding and respect for all the cultural entities, which comprise our society. The goals will be accomplished through a strong emphasis on academic excellence and self-discipline, as well as obligatory participation in a diversified range of school activities, and this within a committed partnership oriented educational community. This school community realizes that pursuing the Collegiate’s goals requires not only a high level of personal commitment from students but also the commitment, dedication and participation of teachers, parents and administrators to maintain and implement the school’s academic, curricular, and behavioural standards. It is the combination of these components and related characteristics, which create Vincent Massey Collegiate’s unique, distinct and unequalled learning environment.
The Learning Organization is cognizant of The Broad Areas of Learning as outlined in the Quebec Education Program. These Broad Areas of Learning are: Health and Well-Being, Personal and Career Planning, Environmental Awareness and Consumer Rights and Responsibilities, Media Literacy, and Citizenship and Community Life. These areas will be incorporated into all Academic and Social Endeavours.
The extraordinary leadership skills and self-reliance of our students has led to a “House System” of student government. This structure empowers all students to take active leadership roles, whereby they are empowered to plan, organize, and implement various activities. The collaborative nature of the “House System” fosters strong communication across Academic Cycles which leads to a genuine community involvement. Within this environment, the outcomes of the Quebec Education Program will not only be met, but will be enriched.
